Today is the new moon, which rarely falls on any particular day like the first day of the month or year.  It is at nearly 11 degrees Capricorn.  For me, that is falling in my first house.  You can look up what it means for the new moon to fall into any of the 12 houses here.

and

Here's what the moon in the first house means for me:

New Moon in the First House
This New Moon placement is a powerful one—it's a time to reinvent yourself in some personal way, such as with a new look or manner of expressing and presenting yourself. This is a personally busy time of year, when you feel energetic and enthusiastic. Think about how you present yourself to others, focus on changing personal habits in such a way as to improve your confidence in yourself, and concentrate on putting your best foot forward, as this is a time when you will get noticed and make a personal impression on others. However, factor in the importance of authenticity in your presentation of yourself. You do not have to, of course, reveal all of yourself to others, but the sign of Aries associated with the first house reminds us of the importance of acting on our impulses and believing in ourselves. This is a time when you can be brave and enjoy new experiences.
Authenticity

This makes so much sense for me. Yesterday I went and bought a lot of fabric and am planning to sew some new pieces for my wardrobe (DIY Couture)..  I am so inspired by recently going to Serrahna, that I made a new year's resolution to only buy clothing made by artisans or make it myself!  I am also really inspired by Jennifer Butler's approach to fashion being about authenticity and intention.  Dress to fulfill your highest purpose.

Numerology

I am also interested in numerology of one's personal year.  Here is how you determine your number for this year: Take your Sun Number (your birth month and date added, then reduced to a single digit), then add 7 (for the year 2014).

Mine: 10+27=37=3+7=10=1 add to 7 = Personal Year 8: A year of reward, respect and recognition. SWEET

1: A year of new beginnings, seed-planting and high energy
2: A year of relationships, sensitivity and cooperation
3: A year of creativity, motivation and inspiration
4: A year of hard work, discipline and opportunities
5: A year of change, freedom and unpredictability
6: A year of responsibility, domestic affairs and service
7: A year of contemplation, self-awareness and spiritual atonement
8: A year of reward, respect and recognition
9: A year of completion, release and transformation
