    Depression and Appearance

Over the past few months we have been doing some videos for the facebook group and I've been doing a few vlog entries.  I noticed that my excitement for doing more has been hampered by self-criticism.  I really don't want to linger on it, but it takes a lot of effort to feel presentable enough to feel good about the outcome.  So I find I'm doing fewer than I might otherwise.  I realized that all of this is effected by my depressive nature and two major depressive episodes this decade.  I literally wear my feelings on my face.

Of course another factor is just general aging.  I updated my intro on my youtube channel (which I've also been cleaning up and organizing, see playlists) from one I had done four years ago.  I'm actually not complaining about the issue of aging, esp. since I love that video on Fabulous Fashionistas!  What bothers me is the evidence of depression and emotional eating, i.e. pain, which I'd much prefer to keep private.  But I'm thinking of Brene' Brown's encouragement to be authentic about our true selves, to be more authentic, as a way of reducing shame.

I also wonder if being 2/4 is a double whammy.  My energy is quite low, and often sedentary, and I'm now paying for that.  I also sit all the time for my work.  And I'm often absorbing a lot of other people's emotions.  Also my secondary nature is quite perfectionistic, so I'm often way too hard on myself, just by habit.  I think this combines as a lot of stress on my body.  I'm also pretty sure my adrenals are shot from childhood stress and work stress.  But I am taking adrenal supplements and also addressing my thyroid again and taking prescribed Vit. D, so hopefully things will be looking up.  And I began walking daily a month or so ago.

You may recall from previous blog posts on Depression:

    • Type 1s (sanguine) are often hyperthymic (elevated, hypomanic) which is anxious and agitated, or hyper
    • Type 2s (phlegmatic) are often depressive because their energy is generally so low and sluggish
    • Type 3s (choleric) are often anesthetic (insensitive) and are only depressed when they don't achieve what they think they should be able to
    • Types 4s (melancholic) are hyperesthetic (overly sensitive) nervous perfectionists, distressed when they fear inferiority
I posted in my Facebook group:

Depression... has effected my appearance so much, both my weight problem and the appearance of my face. There is a lot of downward T2 energy in my face anyway, so which came first? And my T4 energy is definitely Melancholic. Anyone else relate?

Does depression affect appearance, and if so, how?

    • It is a known symptom of depression to lose interest in maintaining your appearance and hygiene.
    • Reasons to smile more and frown less.
    • A March 2010 review of 15 studies, published in the Archives of General Psychiatry, linked obesity to a greater risk of developing depression - and vice versa. source
    • "Depression is more than the blues or the blahs; it is not the normal everyday ups and downs. When a "down" mood, along with other symptoms, lasts for more than a couple of weeks, the condition may be clinical depression. A serious health problem, clinical depression affects the total person. It can change one's feelings, behavior, physical health and appearance, academic performance, and the ability to handle daily decisions and pressures." source

    Face Shapes: Round

    followup to earlier post:

    Face Shapes: Oval

ASTROLOGY FACE READING: Four Type Fashion Systems have been categorizing women by their face shape and features since Caygill, but the origins are ancient. This Astro-Type eBook is based on finding elemental and astrological correlations to the types.

In Four Type Systems, the round/circle face is considered to be Type 1 (Spring/Air) by most authors including, Caygill, Kitchener, Sinclaire, Wright and Tuttle; however Kentner and Riter associate the round/circle face with Summer/Water.

However, it should be noted that this is not supported by Chinese face reading, Greek humors (in this case Phlegmatic) or astrology.

Keep in mind people disagree wildly as to what each face shape looks like and which celebrities have which face shape.  It is somewhat subjective!

How to tell if your ROUND face shape is type 1 or type 2 (no one associated round with type 3 or type 4).

A classic TYPE One with an round face is Cybill Shepard.

    • Cybill Shepard is a light summer 1/2 with a round face (which actually can look different in different pictures).
    • The Greeks say that the Phlegmatic will have an round face, in this case that humor is secondary to her dominant Sanguine nature.

The T1 that is most likely to have a round face is 1/2.

Carey Mulligan is another T1 with a round face.

Remember, an round face that is T1 will have a convex profile, which is very youthful because the nose often goes up and the chin goes forward.
actually her profile might be mixed (in the chin)

Notice that the hair will be BRIGHT AND WARM.

Don't forget that the T1 can also have an oval face.

A classic Type Two with an round face is Joni Mitchell.

    • The Chinese say the water element is associated with the round face.
    • The Greeks also say the Phlegmatic face shape is round.

Remember, an round face that is T2 will have a concave profile, with a nose that usually goes down or is flat, and the face is very yin because the chin recedes.  They won't necessarily look youthful, but age gracefully.
her profile might be a bit mixed

Notice that the hair will be MUTED AND COOL.

    Face Shapes: Oval

ASTROLOGY FACE READING: Four Type Fashion Systems have been categorizing women by their face shape and features since Caygill, but the origins are ancient. This Astro-Type eBook is based on finding elemental and astrological correlations to the types.

Depending on the author or system, the oval face shape is attributed differently.  But when I did my research for my Astrology Face Reading ebook, I surmised that the oval face shape is the most common and can actually be all of the types.

Keep in mind people disagree wildly as to what each face shape looks like and which celebrities have which face shape.  It is somewhat subjective!

How to tell if your OVAL face shape is one of the four types:

A classic TYPE One with an oval face is Sally Fields.

    • She is also know as the quintessential Sanguine celeb.
    • Sally Fields is also known as a "Vital Spring" or 1/4.
    • The Greeks say that the "Venusian Sanguine" will have an oval face.
    • Kentner says the Spring face can be oblong.

But what makes her T1 and not T4?
She has so much animation to her face and personality.
The T1 oval face needs to have an elfin quality about it.

The T1 that is most likely to have an oval face with the most roundness is 1/2. The T1 that is most likely to have an oval face with some pear shape to it is 1/3. The T1 that is most likely to have an oval face with some squareness to it is 1/4.

Remember, an oval face that is T1 will have a convex profile, which is very youthful because the nose often goes up and the chin goes forward.

Notice that the hair will be BRIGHT AND WARM.

But I thought Type 1s had round or heart shaped faces?  Wait for my next post!

A classic Type Two with an oval face is Princess Di.

    • Caygill, Kitchener, Sinclaire and Tuttle associate Type 2 or Summer with oval.
    • But guess what? It's not supported anywhere else.  So just keep an open mind.
    • The Chinese say the water element is associated with the round face.
    • The Greeks also say the Phlegmatic face shape is round.

Remember, an oval face that is T2 will have a concave profile, with a nose that usually goes down or is flat, and the face is very yin because the chin recedes.  They won't necessarily look youthful, but age gracefully.

Notice that the hair will be MUTED AND COOL.

A classic Type Three with an oval face is Elizabeth Banks.

The Greeks call a Type 3 (or Choleric) with an oval face Apollonian, referring to the Sun God's beauty, and it's associated astrologically with Leo.  The Apollonian is often the blonde T3 also, or to dye their hair blonde and get away with it.

Remember, an oval face that is T3 will have a convex profile, with a chin that goes forward but a nose that is beaked or goes down, so not as youthful as T1.  This is the oval face that is slightly disrupted by a pointy chin.  That is often a description of fire.  The Apollonian nose will not be the most Choleric of the T3s, for instance it is more likely to be Aquiline, Grecian than Roman.

Notice that the hair will be MUTED AND WARM.

But I thought the fire face was a triangle? Wait for my upcoming posts!

A classic Type Four with an oval face is Megan Fox.
    (Although Paulos considers her fire).

    • Caygill, Sinclaire and Riter say the Winter face is oval.  Kitchener and Segerstrom say elongated oval.
    • Kentner says the Winter face is oblong.  Tuttle says oval, square or rectangle (right?).
    • The Greeks says the Melancholic face shape is square or rectangle.  The Chinese put Earth with square.
    • From astrology, the Mercurial subtype can have an elongated oval face, from the influence of Saturn.

Remember, an oval face that is T1 will have a convex profile, which is very youthful because the nose often goes up and the chin is straight or possibly recedes.  The T4 nose can go up or down or straight.

Notice that the hair will be BRIGHT AND COOL.
